Shout out and welcome to Contributing Writer Terrance on his take on the ATCQ Documentary…
The controversy surrounding this project had me excited to see what it was all about. On a whole, this film was a good piece overall, especially for Tribe fans. I believe too much focus was put on the nature of QTip & Phife’s relationship (or lack of). Maybe that was a goal of the documentary as a platform to further explain the ‘breakup’ of Tribe. From the beginning of the doc, the demise of ATCQ was highlighted even more than their accomplishments… Bittersweet I guess.
Nonetheless, the film offers some great insider stories on the music, how Tribe actually came about & just some good hip hop historical info in general. Testimonies from a range hip hop industry folk was also a big plus. Overall, the doc was well done but left me thinking in the end that Phife is really emotional about his relationship w/ QTip. Also, this is the most I’ve ever seen or heard about Jarobi. The film is set to be released in New York City on July 8th. If you are a Hip Hop fan or a fan of ATCQ, this is definitely a Summer flick to see…
